The short version
Pass DMV Test (also shown as “Driver Test Prep”) is a practice-test app for state driver knowledge exams. We ask for your name and email so we can send you your score summary and track your progress. We do not sell your information, we do not run advertising, and we do not use third-party analytics or tracking pixels.
Your practice history, answers, and settings stay on your own device.
Who we are
This app is operated by Jared Walther, Tri-Cities, Washington, USA (“we”, “us”). Contact: jnswalther@gmail.com.
Information we collect
Information you give us
| Data | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| First and last name | On first launch | To personalize the app and identify your score reports |
| Email address | On first launch, and when you request a score summary | To send your score summary and progress updates |
| State selection | On first launch | To load the right question bank |
| Access code | If you unlock full access | To verify purchases and, for driving-school students, to bill the school rather than you |
Information collected automatically
- Test results — your score, pass/fail, and test mode are included when a score summary is submitted.
- Date and time of your first launch and of code redemptions.
- Browser/device user-agent string — the standard identifier your browser or the app sends with every request (for example, device type and OS version). We use it to understand what devices need support.
- Push notification token (iOS app only, and only if you allow notifications) — an anonymous device identifier issued by Apple that lets us send you practice reminders.
Information stored only on your device
The following is kept in your device’s local storage and is never transmitted to us. Deleting the app, or clearing your browser data, erases all of it permanently:
- Your full test history, per-question answers, and score trends
- Questions you answered incorrectly (used for the “drill missed questions” feature)
- Dark mode, language, and audio preferences
- Cached translations of the interface and questions
- Free-trial count and unlock status
How we use your information
- To send you the score summary you requested
- To personalize your experience (greeting you by name, loading your state)
- To verify access codes and unlock paid features
- To bill partner driving schools for students who used a school-issued code — schools are billed per student who redeems their code
- To send practice reminders, if you turned on notifications
- To fix problems and improve the questions
We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or automated decision-making, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.
Third-party services
We keep outside services to a minimum. These are all of them:
| Service | What it receives | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Formspree | Name, email, state, score, access code, timestamp, user-agent | Delivers form submissions to our inbox |
| Google Translate | Question and interface text only — never your name, email, or scores | Translates the app when you pick a non-English language |
| Gumroad | Whatever you enter on their checkout page | Processes payments. We never see or store your card details. |
| Netlify | Standard server logs (IP address, request time, page requested) | Hosts the website |
| Apple | Push notification token (iOS app only) | Delivers notifications |
Translation happens only if you choose a language other than English. If you stay in English, no text is sent to Google.
Driving school partners
If your driving school gave you an access code, then when you redeem it we record your name, email, the code used, and the date. We share with that school the number of students who redeemed their code so we can invoice them.
Your individual test scores are not shared with your school unless you ask us to share them.
How long we keep it
- Form submissions (name, email, scores) — kept in our Formspree inbox until you ask us to delete them.
- School redemption records — kept for 7 years, as they are billing records.
- On-device data — kept until you delete the app or clear your browser data. We cannot delete this for you, and we cannot see it.
Your rights and choices
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- Access a copy of what we hold about you
- Correct anything inaccurate
- Delete your information
- Opt out of emails or push notifications
Email jnswalther@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days. We will not treat you differently for exercising any of these rights.
California residents
Under the CCPA/CPRA you have the rights listed above, plus the right to know what categories of personal information we collect and to opt out of “sale” or “sharing”. We do not sell or share your personal information, and we never have.
Turning things off
- Push notifications — iOS Settings → Pass DMV Test → Notifications.
- Emails — reply to any message asking to be removed.
- All on-device data — delete the app, or clear your browser’s site data.
Children’s privacy
This app is intended for people preparing for a driver permit or license exam, which in most states means age 15 and older. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child under 13 has given us personal information, email jnswalther@gmail.com and we will delete it promptly.
If you are under 18, please get a parent or guardian’s permission before entering your email address.
Security
The site and app are served over HTTPS, and submissions are encrypted in transit. Access to our form inbox is protected by a password and two-factor authentication.
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where the change is significant, notify you in the app. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
